The situations turned harsh against congress government in Goa on issue of dredging the River Sal. The Save River Sal Front has rejected the unilateral decision by the Goa State Control Coastal Zone Management Authority (GSCZMA) to refer the contentious issue to the National Institute of Oceanography for dredging the River Sal.The catholic Church in Goa declared their full support to the public movement
Save River Sal Front said that

any attempts by govrrnment or any authorities towards dredging the River Sal may turned the peacefull agiators to violant, and the government will be the ultimate risponsible

. The Front has called for an urgent meeting of all its activists to chalk out the future course of agitation.
The Save River Sal Front has rejected the decision of GSCZMA to refer the contentious issue to the National Institute of Oceanography for dredging the River Sal. Front`s Convenor Nevidade D’Costa, who warned the government not to play with the sentiments and the patience of the people and to respond positively to the peaceful people’s movement.
The Front has said

the GSCZMA has misinterpreted and narrowed down the scope of agitation by SRGF while arriving at the decision. ‘By limiting the scope to a study being conducted by the NIO is an attempt to brush aside the other important points

. Also, involving the Captain of Ports and the Director of Fisheries in any decision making process is travesty of the essence of the agitation, since SRSF has questioned the role of the said departments in the issue’, D’Costa said.
The casino, feel the Cavelossim villagers, where it is anchored, is blocking the movement of fishing trawlers. Besides, the operation to dredge Sal river is also being objected as it affects the marine life.
The movement which began on a small note has taken a larger proportion with the local catholic church chipping in with its support.
