The Pakistani movie ‘Khuda ke liye’ had proved its records breaking performance in Pakistan’s box office. However, as asp acted the rising pressure from radical maulvis and the other religious leaders in the country, the movie is likely to ban in Pakistan. It will be also interesting to see the government’s role, since the Indian Muslim leaders had demanded to ban the movie in India.
It is an amazing story as it explains what really happens behind the Lal Masjid. The story is interesting as it handles two major issues - religious extremism and racial profiling - and twines them well. There are other issues also that the movie tries to focus on; condition of women during Taliban days in Afghanistan, theological issues of acceptance of music and cultural conceptualization of Islam and the way various groups are putting forward their own version of the religion. There are though things in the details where one may feel are over-simplified. But overall Shoaib Mansoor (the writer and the director) has been able to put the things in perspective pretty well.
However the power of radical maulavis and so-called religious authorities objected the movie saying that movie gives a massage to the Muslim ideology. The Lal masjid had declared that movie is blasphemous and against Islamic norms and traditions. They had also expressed the possibilities of rising anti Islam craze. But in fact they fear the possibilities of loosing their religious powers, says the intellectuals.
The producer hopes world wild publicity for the Film. It is also screened in International Film Festival at Goa. But in many Muslim countries likely have ban on it. In India the Muslim fundamentalists keep pressuring the government to ban it in the country. But the question is: will the politicians bands before these forces? Will the government ban it?
